Woven rattan dresses the lampshade of our Gioia table lamp in this natural, yet sophisticated variation of our iconic piece. A welcome return to the basics. Also available in ash version with an iroko finish.
Gioia, a name that pays homage to Italy
Like all products from The Socialite Family brand, the Gioia table lamp owes its name to Italy. Gioia means joy in the mother tongue of our founder and artistic director Constance Gennari.
Her dual Franco-Italian identity is of prime importance to us. And we have made it our duty to share it with you. First of all, in the choice of our craftsmen and their expertise, there, where our Gioia lamp is produced. But also in our inspiration and ideas, for Italy is the cradle of design.
A signature creation
Designed by our own creative studio, its sculptured base suggests the form of a flower below its shade in a natural material. The Gioia table lamp is a signature piece. A statement, bringing together the qualities of the materials, the choice of finishes and the craftsmanship so dear to our hearts at The Socialite Family.
The Gioia juxtaposes a glossy lacquer that illuminates the material - or a ash wood with iroko finish - with a rattan lampshade enhanced by a plaited weave. It fulfils the promise of a refined piece with a timeless look: a blend of authenticity and sophistication. Like the Panchina bench or the Cavallo armchair, the Gioia table lamp matured for months and months in our minds and then came to life beneath our fingers. It is typical of The Socialite Family style.
The Gioia table lamp takes us back to the 1970s not only in its name but in its shape! A prolific period in design as well as fashion, which was a true source of inspiration for Constance Gennari, founder and artistic director of The Socialite Family, as she grew up.
These vintage inspirations are the starting point for all our creations. For the Gioia table lamp, we were inspired by the aesthetics of the 70s when the generosity of rounded shapes came to the forefront. This is why curved sections, reminiscent of flower petals, are to be found in the base of our lamp, and they are combined with the square, angular look of the woven rattan lampshade.
Woven rattan, natural sophistication tinged with authenticity
Rattan enjoyed its first success during the Second Empire with its winter gardens, where one could enjoy the outside light while staying indoors. However, it was after the war, when the fashion for second homes - which one wished to furnish in ways other than one's urban interior - appeared on the scene, that rattan became more popular. And then in the 1970s the desire for authenticity and a return to nature reappeared. This woven pattern became omnipresent and adorned a great deal of the furniture available. Still, today, this skilled cane-weaving evokes in us a wish for the 'good life' and the sunshine. It is synonymous with travel, and a return to the simple things in life. Essentials.
For our Gioia table lamp, it is this natural material - which gives each of our creations certain unique textures and colours - that sets the tone. Brought up-to-date by the geometric shape of our lamp's square shade, it brings an authentic, almost handcrafted feel to a light whose finesse is self-evident. Gioia, the promise of a timeless and warm-looking piece, almost even retro, as it takes us back to our dreams of holidays and escapism.
One Gioia, a thousand possibilities
Wherever it goes, the Gioia in rattan will - like its pleated cotton counterpart - become an essential. Turn it into a bedside lamp in your bedroom, placed on your bedside table or on a pile of beautiful books at the bottom of your bed. Its rattan shade will create a warm and enveloping halo of beautifully diffused light, so restful for you or your child. This designer lamp, tinged with softness, placed in your little one's room will begin their education in all things beautiful.
With its different plain colours, our lamp will blend in with your decoration and your mood! Change it as often as you wish. On a mantelpiece, at the end of the sofa, on a coffee table. The possibilities are endless with this combination that is as beautiful as it is new.
